The Art of the Dot
The Sungudi saree was born in Madurai in the 16th century, when weavers from Saurashtra settled under the watch of the Meenakshi temple. They carried a secret: thousands of tiny knots tied into pure cotton before dyeing. Untied, each knot blooms into a small white dot — a star. A finished Sungudi is a night sky you can wear.
Oviyam means artwork. We are a new online house built on one belief: this craft deserves to travel beyond Madurai without losing what makes it Madurai. Sourced from the city's dyeing tradition, checked by hand, and sent to your doorstep — each saree a small canvas of dots.
